Research trip: Sweden and the U.S. 8

This was my last day in Sweden. After yesterday’s plopp on the train, today the “lost in translation” award goes to this aromatic restaurant.

I didn’t take the opportunity to eat there, but spent the morning in Uppsala University. It is Sweden’s oldest University dating back to 1477. There is a wide variety of building from Middle Ages to functional and to modern architecture.

Inside the library is an early Gothic codex containing the four gospels. It is known as the Codex Argenteus (literally “silver book”) because of its silver writing on red pages. There were a number of other interesting codexes in a nice little display.

Lunch consisted entirely of coffee and treats near the main cycle path through town. Looking at the options it all had to be treats for lunch. I cannot be held responsible for being irresponsible in this case.

After all that sugar and caffeine there was the need for a bit of a run to finish off my time in Sweden. It was a nice flat run along the river in about 8 degree temperatures.

So long Sweden. I have now completed the onerous paperwork to get into the U.S.. I will be leaving my hotel at 4am!! Thanks Sweden for the things I have learnt, the people I have met and the wonderful hospitality. I hope to return one day. United States here we come.
