Summer Fun #19 Sal’s b’day

New Year’s Eve is always a special time in our family. We are more often than not on holidays but it is always Sally’s birthday. Mum’s birthday means her choice for the day. So our day was a reflection of what her mind is like!!

It started with a cup of tea and muesli in bed. After force feeding the children a “pre-breakfast” we went for a swim in Devonport. It was a beautiful morning. Each child got to choose a 400m set to make up a 2k set all up. Their approach to this was a reflection of their personalities. Holly’s was an eclectic mix of drills and kicking. Ed found it hard to choose what to do but settled on a few short sharp things. Kate’s set was designed to not be too strenuous. Dad set a 400m timed effort with target times for each of them. Again the children’s personalities reflected how they attacked the 400m. Say no more.

After that is was back to the lane way cafe for second breakfast. 3 dishes between 5 of us was plenty.  It was back to the antique emporium again next. We then went to Bunnings for some house supplies and for the children to attempt to kill/annoy each other with shopping trolleys and various hardware implements. Such fun!

We then made our way to the beautiful Turners beach for a swim. It was picturesque and lovely to swim in bass strait. We then went straight to a strawberry picking place (which had already been picked out in previous days) as a consolation we grabbed some yummy desserts. Then it was off to Ulverstone for some more antiquing and food shopping.

We returned home via a beautiful country road passed lots of poppy fields with dramatic warnings. Apparently Tasmania grows half the worlds morphene.

Getting home the kids decorated Sally’s cake with all her favourite chocolates. Mark made a punch and pizzas for sal’s birthday dinner as well as recounting some of the things we love about Sally.

We watched the early fireworks, a little but of “the crown” and headed to bed.

Happy birthday Sally and happy New Years to all.
