We walked 2 kms out of Caterets to watch to Tour. We wanted a nice shady spot at it was about 33*C so we had to get there 3 hours before the "booty car" arrived. We put up our beach umbrella and planted our Australian Flags in the ground to mark our patch of shady grass.
The kids loved getting all the freebies from the "booty cars." Kate in particular loved dancing and waving her flag for every truck that came past. We have worked out the best way to get lots of goodies is to have the kids stand and wave and we catch anything they drop. There are some very aggressive adults who will dive for all the freebies.
There were 2 highlights of the day. Firstly, when Chris Froome threw his bottle to us. The kids were hoping to score a bottle but we had told them that it was very unlikely. So we were all excited to have a Sky bottle straight from the Yellow Jersey. Also a bonus to have photographic evidence.
Richie Porte said "hey" to Mark as he rode past us coming back down after the finish. (see below)
Michael Matthews waved and turned around when Mark called out "Go bling." We also got waves from Matt White and Mick Rogers.
As Rohan Dennis was cycling back down after the finish he also stopped at our group to give us a bottle. Unfortunately he gave it to the French girl sitting next to us who he thought was an Aussie...
