Day 35: Ramparts closed for the day

Ed has finally succumbed to Kate's fever so we had to have a day at home.  That leaves Holly, Mark and Sal to catch the fever.  Once again, drugs are good!  Ed is a different person after Nurofen.

Mark went for an early morning ride and we said goodbye to Gayelene as she travelled back to Italy to see her boys.

Holly and Sal snuck out for some crepes just down the road from our hotel. Nutella crepes are by far tastier than citron sucre.

When Mark returned home, Kate and Sal went shopping.  The clothing shops are about 1km down a very steep hill but totally worth the walk!
Coming to France in July is perfect for bargain shoppers like Sal and Kate who love the 70% off sales.  The question is how to fit it all in our bags.

Walking back to the hotel through the fortified city is amazing.

The afternoon was spent watching the Tour. French TV is very frustrating the way they speak in French (ha ha) and speak over Richie Porte when he speaks in English. Kate has studied Mark's Tour de France guide and has become an expert on all facts relating to the Tour.

Today was the Alpe d'Huez stage and we had really hoped to go and watch the Tour and give the kids a taste of the legendary mountain.  Unfortunately the tunnel to Alpe d'Huez was blocked and we would have had to take a detour making the drive 6 hours.

For our last night in France the kids wanted Pizza!
We got take away pizza for the kids and have come downstairs to have a romantic French meal in the Brasserie La Collegiale.

  1. We tried to watch the Wimbledon interviews in Slovenia and had a similar experience. And we really struggled to find the Ashes on any channel at all!
