I is for Italy. We met up with David and Merrin for lunch at a lovely seaside town called Recco. We had our first real Italian food and Gelato. David translated the menu for us and the meal was soooo good.
The plan was to go for a swim in the Mediterranean Sea after lunch but the large rocks and dirty water turned the kids off so we just splashed around.
At Recco, Ed spotted a Police Fiat. His favourite car.
We decided to take a detour after lunch to the Town of Pisa before driving to Casa Maggiore.
A is for Ache
We were back in the car after lunch and drove through some more Italian tunnels when Kate's ears started to hurt. Sal's ears were also blocked and the drop in altitude from the Alps also hurt her. Knowing the girls ability to cope with pain and our desire to have a full nights sleep we decided to find a hospital to check their ears.
God really looked after us. We found a massive hospital on the outskirts of Pisa. The first person we met spoke English and then the triage nurse also spoke English and had some connection to Australia. She put both Kate and Sal as priority cases and they saw a doctor within 20 min. So different to Australia when you sit in emergency for 3 hours! They both have antibiotics and are feeling much better.
T is for Tower of Pisa.
We have taken the cheesy photos of us holding up the Tower... Will upload tomorrow.
Another strange experience (like the Venus de Milo) where people seems to love the imperfections of the building.
Finally, after 13 hours (of what should only take 6 hours) we have made it to our first Italian accomodation.
Ciao
