Day 9A & 10A: Le Tour and transfer

We finally have wifi in our new accommodation (more of that shortly). This is a bumper double blog post for yesterday and today.

We woke up Thursday morning after 3 big days on the bike, and would finally get to see the tour.  We were tossing up going for a ride in the morning, but both Ben's and my watches gave us both a massive fail. 1/100!!

It was our last day in Argeles-Gazost, and there were still some famous climbs.  We kept waking up looking at Hautacam (which I have ridden previously), and the call was too much for Ben, so up he went.  As he rode, I went around town and bought some cow bells, bought some supplies for spectating, and had a coffee. We finally set off around midday to get to the see the race. It was all uphill, and where we stopped was almost 35km from home, so I still ended up riding 70km on my rest day, and Ben over 100k!
It really is a giant party, and the further you go up the final mountain the more fun it is. As we went along, Ben really just wanted a sausage sandwhich, and I just wanted a beer.  But this isn't Australia... or is it?
While it was super tempting to stay, higher altitudes called us, so off we went feeling refreshed!
We finally found another spot, the perfect spot next to a river, and where someone else had set up a bar and a food stall! Bingo.
With the sound of the alpine stream, cool legs from having a dip, and another sneaky beer, we were ready for the tour.  It is just so amazing how close you get to the riders!
That is Jonas up close, but I reckon we can get closer!

Another really good day at the tour and in the mountains.  Did I mention it has been sunny over here?

After packing up out bikes at night we were ready for our transfer to the foot of Mt Ventoux.  It was a 6-7 hour drive and so refreshments were needed before leaving.
We have been driving a Peugeot 3008 around, but not all the locals like that much horse power.  They come into town with only 1 horsepower!

After our morning coffee and snack it was in the car for 7 hours until we got to the town of Bedoin at the foot of Mt Ventoux.  As you approach the mountain cuts an imposing figure.  A little scary and a little inspiring.  We ride it tomorrow.
