Day 15: Nice Ironman (almost)

When in Nice, so as the Nicians do- cheese, swim, strut, and of course... Ironman. Well, not the whole thing anyway. Mark and Ben took off early in the morning to ride the Nice Ironman course.  Mark had met an Australian who lives in Monaco and was riding his bike in the heat of the day yesterday. He advised leaving early, so 5:30am was the time for our rendezvous at the Nice sign.
It is a tough course, with over 2,200 m of elevation gain over 180km. Stunning scenery, big hills, and lots of heat.

Sal also left at dawn for a run along the ironman course.  Unlike the ride, it is pancake flat, with 4 out and back 10.5km laps.  Sally did one leisurely 10km out and back along the Promenade des Anglais.

Whilst the boys continued to cycle, Sal went on an adventure to St Isidore via tram and bus, and returned at just the same time as Mark, just in time to get some pics as Mark returned from his epic ride.

Afternoon time was time for a nap, then Pizza and Mojitos with Ben at the bar under our unit.Another full and rich day in Nice!
