Day 19: Tour de crazy!

Today we went and watched the tour.  Our idea was to avoid the craziness of the last climb and instead head to the second-to-last climb.  We found a nice winding back road that took us right to the top of the Category 1 climb and the KOM sign.

It was a great plan, but it seemed like lots of others had decided that this was the right spot to be today.  The place where we sat was a wooded forest road that entered into fields at the top of the hill.  We made a small camp by the side of the road and tried with all our might to protect our turf.  We sat between a lovely French couple and an American couple. The world really does come to the tour.

The crowd just continued to build and build, and they were all ready to party, like my friend the centurion on a T-Rex!

We got into the spirit of the day with flags and cow bells.  We had a few people yell at us "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!" Not sure why??

The crowd continued to grow until it felt like a packed arena around us.

Finally, the riders arrived, and that road became a narrow, noisy running of the gauntlet for riders.

It really was an amazing day.  There is nothing quite like le Tour!
